Initial Thoughts • Hidden Salford

Today I did a preliminary photo shoot around the part of Salford I do know near the University and went to places I had been to before but I knew a lot of people weren't familiar with, so I decided to document them on my iPhone and used an app to edit them called VSCOcam.

Near the University there is a burnt out mill that I used to go to and photograph, which was where I planned to go first, but someone had borded up the inside so I could not get in. Instead, I went around the outside to see if there was another way in and found this wall with graffiti on it. I thought it touched on the subject of Hidden Salford by looking at places that no one has been too or seen.

I then came across this wall that surrounded another abandoned building which was full of glass bottles and fragments to stop trespassers. I thought this was visually interesting but not something I would consider with Hidden Salford.

I decided I wanted to photograph derelict places as part of this research, so took two photographs of windows from a derelict property just next door to the shards of glass. I thought the composition best suited being in the middle, as it gives it a sense of control and cleanliness in the most messy and unruled place.

I then decided to have a bit of fun with my friends fisheye lens adaptor! This has nothing to do with Hidden Salford as a theme but I just wanted to show a fun effect on a place where people consider to be dangerous and full of crime!
