Research • Lancashire Evening Telegraph

I decided to do some research using the local newspaper online source Lancashire Telegraph and see some of the staged shots that they produce as part of their news stories.

You can clearly see what is happening in this photograph because of the content of the image as well as the caption it has been given. The caption reads all of the families names, which we then read on in the article to find out more about who else has been affected and what is going to happen. It gives a clearer understanding of the situation if we can place a name to the face. We can clearly see that this story is about a sad topic rather than something to celebrate, as the family are looking straight into the camera lens and looking sad. The mother is also holding the boys head and hand in a caring fashion, to indicate that the child is terminally ill as shown in the title.

This story had two photographs, one of the small child shown above, and the other of the scene of the crime and where the child was run over. The first is of the small child in the hospital, we can clearly see that this child has been injured and has to have been treated in hospital. The caption also reads "Jamie Marsden, who suffered a severe gash to his right leg in the incident". In those fourteen words, we learn all there is to know about the image and what is wrong with his boy, as well as his name. The image below shows the scene of the crime, and puts a geographical location by telling us the address of the crossing. This could act as a warning to other parents, or just be of interest to people who may have passed the area and saw the incident happen to come forward and offer knowledge of who the driver might of been.
